on 12/1/2020

This month, LOGI in partnership with Publish What You Pay (PWYP) hosted its 2 day annual forum entitled “Governance of the Oil and Gas Sector in Lebanon: A Multi-stakeholder Approach to Strengthen Civil Society’s Role” under the Norad project.

The panels hosted a plethora of key stakeholders such as members of parliament, international experts, local consultants, regulatory authority, as well non-governmental organizations. The discussions tackled important and timely policy issues that influence the sustainable development of the oil and gas sector in Lebanon:

  • Unfolding the EITI in Lebanon

  • Public Consultation

  • The Impact of Maritime Border Disputes in the East Med on the Future of Hydrocarbon Explorations

  • Beneficial Ownership and the petroleum registry

  • Lessons learnt from recent dry wells in the East-Med, the cases of Cyprus and Egypt

  • Mitigating the environmental impact of offshore hydrocarbon exploration.

Key takeaways and  commitments from different stakeholders were reached. We will be publishing all of these in a document that will be accessible through our website and all our social media platforms.

Following the event, The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jan Kibis tweeted: “An interesting conference on Governance of the Oil and Gas Sector in #Lebanon .
